I am in the car waiting for Kira to finish her soccer practice: it's raining! the skies are crying your departure it seems! we miss you already... but we are also excited to hear from you and tell us about your first destination! One anecdote for you: I lived in Dakar, Senegal for 3 months for a radio internship. I sat on sand my first day of arrival. I was in a swimsuit. no one had warned me but flies leave their eggs in the sand there and I ended up with little bumps on my butt full of worms and baby flies: DISGUSTING! But it left me a cool story to tell. Hopefully, you'll get plenty (stories, not worms) on this adventure... Love, SEV.
When you read this, your original fears of the unknown must be now quieted, only to be replaced by others. That's the way travel is, which is why people like it, except people who go to the same place every year, who like home away from home. If you had those kinds of parents, your life wouldn't be nearly as exciting. I hope you are having a wonderful time, despite the ups and downs of travel and can't wait to see your first post,which may be as much as a whole paragraph. Wonderful seeing you in CT, the day you left and hope to see you on your way home as well.

We just read your Mom's Jan. 21 update and saw some beautiful pictures, including one of you and Emma sitting on top of the black car. You are so lucky to be doing what you're doing!
